How Spotlight Works
Step 1 Your Child is Invited
To be considered for a Spotlight interview, reach out directly. A $85 booking credit holds your student's time and applies toward any add-on you choose after the interview.
Step 2A Real Conversation
Your child meets 1:1 with Jamil for a free, recorded feature interview. No scripts. No performance. Just an honest conversation about who they are and where they're headed. Jamil has spent close to ten years helping students at Rice University, West Point, and high schools across the country speak clearly and confidently — on their own terms.
Step 3Your Family Chooses What Comes Next
Think of it like school pictures — the session is free, and afterward your family decides if you'd like anything from it. Edited clips, a written feature, a profile audit, or coaching. Nothing is required. Packages start at $85.
FAQs
-
Spotlight is designed for high school students who are beginning to think about college, internships, leadership roles, or future career paths.
It’s especially valuable for students who have depth but may not always know how to articulate it clearly. The process helps them reflect, organize their thinking, and communicate confidently in their own voice.
Students do not need to be outgoing or polished. They only need to be willing to engage in a thoughtful conversation.
-
Spotlight works for college applications, internships, scholarships, summer programs, and future employment — any moment where being clearly understood matters. More broadly, it helps students practice explaining who they are, a skill that serves them well beyond any single application.

Yes.
Every Spotlight feature is reviewed by your family before it is published. Nothing is made public without your approval.
We ensure the final version reflects your student accurately, professionally, and in a way your family is comfortable sharing.
-
Your student's Spotlight feature is hosted online and associated with their name — designed to appear clearly and professionally when searched. Your family receives a direct link to share whenever it's useful.

Many students are.
Spotlight is not a performance. It is a structured, guided conversation designed to feel natural and supportive. Students meet one-on-one with Jamil, without parents present, so they can speak freely and without pressure.
Shy students often do especially well in this format because the conversation unfolds at their pace.
-
The recorded conversation lasts approximately 30 minutes.
After your session, you select your package. Editing and shaping typically take 2–3 weeks, depending on the package selected.
You will review the final version before publication.
