Our PrinciplesStudents deserve a clear and credible way to introduce themselves when someone searches their name.
What makes a Spotlight interview different?
Guided but natural.
1
The conversation follows a thoughtful structure but feels relaxed and conversational.
Questions designed to surface perspective.
2
The focus moves beyond accomplishments to what the student has learned, noticed, or become curious about.
Students speak in their own voice.
3
There are no scripts or rehearsed answers. The goal is authenticity.
Professional facilitation.
4
The conversation is guided so students feel comfortable and supported while still presenting themselves clearly.
The Spotlight experience helps students gain:
Discoverability
When someone searches a student’s name, they find a clear and credible introduction.
Clarity
Students explain their interests and experiences in a way that helps someone quickly understand who they are.
Memorability
A short video introduction is far easier to remember than a résumé or application file. It allows the student’s voice and personality to come through.
Visibility
Students leave with a professional video introduction they can share when opportunities arise.
Meet Jamil Higley
Spotlight Founder
For over 20 years, Jamil has worked with young adults at pivotal moments—helping them clarify who they are, what they value, and how they show up when it matters.
She has coached high school, college, and graduate students in leadership and emotional intelligence, guiding them through high-stakes interviews, transitions, and public moments. Her work centers on one skill: helping students articulate who they are clearly and confidently.
Spotlight was built from that experience.
Parents often invest heavily in academics, activities, and preparation. Many students are never formally guided through how to speak about themselves in a way that feels natural and credible.
Spotlight is that space.
A structured, thoughtful conversation designed to help students be clearly understood—now and in the years ahead.
